Magnolia Civic Center
That wonderful sense of history, of times past when afternoons were spent at the movie house and music evolved.  Breezy days welcomed a walk down Bankhead Street and sodas were a nickel.

Architecture, as fashion, works in cycles.  2001 brought a rebirth of New Albany’s golden child, the Magnolia Civic Center and Cine’ Theatre.  Beautifully refinished through the efforts of its Board of Directors and the City of New Albany, she shines bright today, a beacon for nostalgic vistors and newcomers alike.

Open her doors. She has wonderful stories to tell.

From its construction in 1947 as the Magnolia through the height of her popularity as the renamed Cine’ Theatre, movies played each Saturday night to sold-out crowds.  The familiar, warm structure welcomed back many war heros and sparked a romance or two.

Fast forward to today.

Lay sleeping for may years, the theatre has been awakened with new seating on the first floor for crowds reaching 320.  The stage that once boasted a big screen for movies is now host to enormous velvety drapes with performance space.  A state of the art audio-visual controls center sits quietly in the balcony surrounded by seating for an additional 86.

Exploring further in this architectural treasure, visitors will find a conference-style room and a foyer with one-of-a-kind hand painted floors.
