NEW
ALBANY
COMMUNITY
CENTER

New Albany Community Center, built in the 1950s, holds many memories for the folks who grew up in New Albany. Located on the south side of town, the Community Center was host to school dances, after school arts and crafts, and social gatherings of all sorts.
In 2018, City Leaders saw a need for updates to be made in order to bring the building up to code. New Albany Main Street staff members stopped by to look at the space and quickly realized the the building and the its playground had potential to once again become a place of activities and celebrations. In 2019, Main Street used the money that had been invested by the city as leverage to write a grant with Toyota Mississippi to update the playground and create outdoor gathering spaces and were awarded over $40,000. A musical instrument area, new swings, picnic tables, and refurbished equipment now brighten the view. Main Street staff and volunteers helped complete the interior and assisted with the installation of two patios.
With grant funding from UNITE, Main Street was able to purchase tables for events such as Union County Development's Annual Dinner. Zesty Zeniors weekly gatherings, weddings, and more.
